Tenebre

Inside an ornate old theater, an audience sits facing a stage set with a drum kit and keyboards, below a screen showing the word Tenebre over burning logs.

I had the pleasure of getting to see this for the first time at a classic theater with the soundtrack accompaniment by the original composer and his band, Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin. This is going to sway my opinion and I don’t care, it fucking ruled.

The film itself was fun and, uh, Argento-esque? You know what I mean. If you’ve seen Deep Red or Suspiria then you definitely know his quirks in story writing and scripts when you hear them. There are also some 80’s-isms, such as our main character using the term ‘jailbait’ (which gave me the big ick), that you have to just forgive because this wasn’t a remaster or recut, this was the original film.

Outside of that, this was a fun chase down of an Italian serial killer with lots of gore everywhere and creative ways of killing people on the killer’s tail with a couple of decent twists for the time of the film. I feel like I really watched this in the right format to feel the strongest about it because, even outside of the live music (which ruled!), this really makes for a good party film, watched with a few other people.
